The Tulane seal adorns the entrance to Howard-Tilton Memorial Library. Central to the seal is a heraldic shield, which symbolizes the university’s founder and the city of New Orleans. Paul Tulane is represented by the three towers from the coat of arms of the city of Tours, France, his ancestral home. New Orleans is represented by the crescent flanked by stars, signifying the city’s coat of arms. Original file number: 411. Photo was used as the March 3, 2017 New Wave In Focus "Shielded."
